Keys To Be Free Video Ministry: Elisha And The Widow
The Story of Elisha and the Widow: 2 Kings 4:1-7
The setting of this text is 2 Kings Chapter 4. A time during Elisha’s days as a prophet. It was a period of a great national falling away from the things of God, much like the scene in our own nation today. This age was basically unsympathetic to God's people and anything to do with Him or His Word. It was tough for a believer to stand for the principles of God. For many, it was often difficult even to make ends meet and provide for their families. Many fell into debt.
Such was the case with the widow featured for this keys to freedom Video Ministry episode. One thing I did not note in the video was the widow was evidently a believer. Her husband was a servant to the prophets and most likely a prophet himself. He was a man of God who had been involved in serving. I love the fact that it says in verse one that he revered, "feared" the LORD. Her husband had been a man of God, involved in the ministry!
The lesson for us involving keys to freedom here is that regardless of how perilous our economy is today, and the problems we may face, there is no problem or need that God cannot meet as we simply trust and obey Him. The Word is alive. It is the same "yesterday, today, and forever!" (Hebrews 13:8)
All God asks of us is that we simply trust and obey Him, knowing He cares for us. (1 Peter 5:6-7).
He asks us to "fear" Him and obey His commandments. Psalm 112 is one Psalm I am memorizing right now. It's FULL of the blessings that come to those who do such a thing as reverence Him and walk in obedience.
Another valuable point amidst this passage has to do with the way God meets our needs. He generally does this by taking what we have and multiplying it as we turn our lives over to Him and obey the principles of His Word. This is true of our talents, finances, anointing, gifts, or physical assets.
Finally, the real issue for each of us is how will we respond amidst today's struggles. Will we be found men and women of faith and principle?
Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God.
