Perform In Your Local Market First

To work you local market means you are faithful with the audience you have now in your city, town, or county. Sing to them, even if it's only 10 in the audience, as if there were 10,000.

I can think of a few examples of artists who did this and later were discovered.

A few years ago a group from Atlanta, Georgia by the name of Two Bare Feet. Here was a group of guys who had a great foundation of ministry marketing strategies. For one, they were humble. In addition, they had great communication skills. They were faithful to connect and communicate with pastors and youth ministers.

Most importantly, they worked hard right in their local market in the surrounding areas of Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.

They met young people. Shook hands and took time with the small following they were gaining. They set up a web page to communicate with their fans. Some of them took the time to get to know the local announcers at a Christian Music Station that would play local artists, whether they were signed to a major contract or not.

I can remember vividly the day I heard their rough draft single of YOU ALONE in that production room of WWEV radio a few years ago. The anointing was all over the song. God's favor and anointing has a way of opening doors by the way. ("A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men").

I was no "great man", but I had been given the responsibility of finding anointed praise and worship music to add to our rotation.

I put the song on without hesitation. (It became a station hit with phone calls of "WHO is that singing" to requests everyday).

They still worked their day jobs, and then with a passion pursued their gift of performing and writing anointed music.

Their song, You Alone, not only caught the attention of our listeners but also record execs in Nashville.

The rest is history. They now have a record label and are known as Echoing Angels. They are touring the country at music festivals and their own concerts nationwide.

They were faithful to the few in the beginning. They were humble. They worked their local market.
