Meth To Mercy Ministry

David and Kathy Smith formed the Meth to Mercy Ministry after Kathy's release from max security prison.

Kathy is a former meth addict, and speaks in a powerful way about how the Lord took this addiction away. Kathy was in the crystal darkness film about meth users.

David is a former police officer and toured with Tim Miner and other top musicians in the past. He has released his cd called from Meth to Mercy.

The couple together will go to schools and churches with their message of hope for the
meth addict, or for those who want to hear this testimony live.

Here is story from KXXI Channel 12:

DICKSON, OK - We often hear stories of people going to jail for dealings with drugs, but it's not as often that we hear about former addicts helping steer kids away from drugs. Dara Downs was in Dickson today with an former addict who is trying to use her experience to educate others.

Kathy Smith says she dropped out of Dickson High School more than twenty years ago because of her drug addiction. But on Wednesday Kathy returned to school with her son, Justin, to tell students about her experience with drugs in the hopes that they won't follow the same path.

Junior high and high school students filled the Dickson auditorium Wednesday for a presentation on being drug free. It wasn't a trained public speaker who took the stage, but a fellow student.

"That's why I was asked to speak here today, because my childhood was destroyed by drugs."

Justin's mother Kathy is a former meth addict, and created the program "From Meth to Mercy" to educate students on the affects meth can have on not only on that one person but also their family.

"I wanted them to hear my side of the story because you always hear about what happens to the person or about the law enforcement but you never really hear from the people that it hurts," Justin says.

Kathy then gave her side of the story on her long problem with drugs, from how they caused her to lose family members to how her addiction ultimately landed her in prison.

Kathy says she hopes at least one student will think twice before using.

"That they're going to stop and think about it before they go back out and do anything, and they're going to have to think you know I don't want to be like that and I don't want to be a number, or I don't want my mother coming to my grave to see me," Kathy says.

Glenn Stubbs, an officer with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, helped send Kathy to jail. Stubbs was also part of the presentation. He says he's happy to be a part of a program that can tackle drugs hopefully before they start.

"The earlier we can reach these kids that drugs just absolutely destroys your life the better off we're going to be about them not getting into it," Stubbs says.

Kathy says she wants to take "From Meth to Mercy" to the national level, and wants a rehabilitation program instated for drug offenders getting out of prison. She says without the rehabilitation she did on her own, she knows she would have gone right back into drugs.
