Video Secrets For Ministry and Marketing

Are there video secrets to being yourself on camera, and being able to be comfortable?

You may be ready to go forward with using video for your ministry or business, but can't get past the feeling of fear, doubt, or even discouragement.

Well, first of all, the fact that you are even thinking of using video in your ministry or business is great.

No doubt the growing trend online is Video. YouTube is now the second largest search engine. You can now create video e-mails, broadcast live, and even have video conferences using simple to use technology.

The growing trend online is video. What better way to harness the power of video online than to have your own video ministry, live ministry show, or video demonstrations.

There are basic video secrets you can master!

I have a real passion to help those who want to start their own video ministry. Television can be expensive. Your video ministry online does not have to be.

Tackle the basics of getting the simple to use video gear, you can focus on the video secret of being comfortable on camera!

How To Be Comfortable On Camera

I created my husband's online digital ministry at FirebrandMinistry.com over a year ago. The fact that my husband, "Pastor Dave", can preach and teach from home and still impact people all over the world with the videos is exciting. I can go into my back office of the blog and see views on these videos from all over the World, from Russia to Pakistan, from Japan to Italy.

So are you convinced video is the way to go?

You may be but still want to get past the sweaty palms, squeaky voice, and nerves when looking into that camera or web-cam.

So let's take a look at three video secrets to help you!

Three Video Secrets!

Key #1

The first key in being on camera is speak to the one.

You focus on that one person that your are trying to reach and talk as if you are talking one on one.

Knowing your target audience helps. You can "speak their language" as you relate to that specific group. For example, you may have a video ministry where you are really trying to communicate help to those struggling with addictions. Focus on one person and speak to them as if they were in the room with you. Look into the camera as if you were looking into their eyes to convey your message of hope.

The saying goes that "Everybody's friend is nobody's friend." So focus the "voice of your message" and narrow it down to that one person.

When you accomplish this first key, you are able to come across the camera as more sincere. Having empathy and being authentic happens naturally!

Sometimes when we turn a video camera on, we get stiff and take on a different appearance with your voice changing. What happens is you are not acting like yourself!

Be you. Look into that lens and talk one on one!

I use to work at a television station in the sports department a number of years ago. I watch closely this one sportscaster that was everyone's favorite. His name was Bud. Who would not love a sport's guy named Bud.

Well, good 'ole Bud would be live on camera after a loud and crazy basketball game. When he got the sign from the camera man that they were live, he'd look into that camera and talk as if it was just you and him at that game.

No matter how distracting events were around him, he would laser in on that camera lens, be himself at ease, all the while reporting about the game with a huge grin.

I learned a lot about being myself on camera my sport's friend, "Bud."

Key #2

The second of these video secrets is real easy.

Breath! Yes, take a deep breath before you begin and breath out. Sometimes when I get nervous or excited, my voice gets squeaky.

One way to settle yourself down to breath is to put your hand over your heart and take in big breaths. As you do that, try to focus on that one person you are trying to communicate with, or think of someone you love.

Connect with the thought of that person as you breath. I'm not trying to sound mystical or strange about this key. It can sound corny.

But as you look into that camera lens, focus breathing slowly, put your hand on your heart before turning the camera on, and focus on someone you love.

Rarely are you out of breath when you are sharing one on one with someone you know well.

Key #3

The third of these video secrets is real critical.

Keep it brief! Make sure it's one thought per video. No rambling.

In the first 10 to 15 seconds of a video, a viewer usually decides whether they want to watch your video or not. So deliver your valuable content quickly and make sure you put your main thought in those first seconds of the video.

I earned a simple video secret from a marketer who used to make commercials and produce movie previews. He shared something so simple, yet so pivotal. He explained that you should always use this phrase…"In this video I am going to help you….."or "In this video I am going to explain…." Or, "in this video I am going to show you…."

Of all the video secrets, this one tip has helped me the most to focus on the ONE THOUGHT I wanted to communicate in a video.

Now, it goes without saying that you shoot videos that are full of content of value, not sales speeches for your ministry or products! You offer a "call to action" at the end which can lead them to your opt-in page, or a sales page for a product with more help.

Of the two, I believe the video call to action should go to the opt-in to build your list.

So keep it brief. Tell a short story. Use a testimonial. Watch the TV news next time and notice how short some of the stories are and how little sound bytes often make up a story.

If you have a major teaching video or video ministry event, at least try to break it up into shorter sections. I can tell you that someone is more likely to watch an 8 minute segment of a sermon rather than the 90 minute version.

If anything, the 8 minute version might convince them that it's worth listening to the 90 minutes worth of your message!

So, look into the camera, breath, and keep it brief.
